Pilates mat Exercise
Pilate's is an exercise regime that was created by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900"s. He originally trained athletes, boxers, gymnasts, dancers and circus performers.
The Pilates method of body conditioning is a unique system of stretching and strengthening to tone muscles, improve posture, and provide flexibility and balance. It unites both body and mind. The principles of Pilates are concentration, control, breath, and fluidity.
The beauty is that once you understand the core of its philosophy, its movements can be translated into every format of your life. Each exercise is an important movement in and of its self, and can be used as a way to stretch and move correctly throughout the course of one’s day. Many people use the essence of the exercises to enhance other activities.
Pilates can and does change the way you relate to your own body and the way you carry it in the world.
The exercises in Pilates initiate from your powerhouse, the core. This is the region of your body that encircles the area just below the beltline. Your powerhouse includes the muscles of the abdominals, low back, hip, and buttocks. When used together these muscles stabilize your core and protect your back.
When doing mat exercises, you’ll imagine a corset being cinched with around your center. By pulling these muscles up and in, you will automatically engage your “powerhouse”.
Breath is very important in this work. It is a vehicle to achieve inner focus, and a path to relaxing the mind and calming the spirit. It is the engine that drives all movement, and it lies at the source of the Pilates method.
Whether you are an athlete, a casual exerciser, or if you are simply looking for a low impact way to make a big impact on your body, you will feel the powerful benefits of a Pilates workout.
